Rich Rodriguez, ex-Michigan football coach, hired as Louisiana-Monroe offensive coordinator

Terry Bowden leaned on family connections to land an offensive coordinator. Those same ties could net him a starting quarterback as well.

Rich Rodriguez, a spread offense innovator and former Michigan football coach, will lead Bowden’s Louisiana-Monroe offense. The former West Virginia, Michigan and Arizona coach was offensive coordinator for Terry’s older brother, Tommy Bowden, at Tulane and Clemson.

Rodriguez is bringing along his son, Rhett Rodriguez, a graduate transfer quarterback from Arizona. In four years, Rhett appeared in 11 games for the Wildcats and started one game in 2018.

Rodriguez, 57, hasn’t coached since spending the 2019 season as offensive coordinator at Ole Miss.
