ANN ARBOR -- As it turns out, the decision to name Shea Patterson Michigan's starting quarterback came over the weekend.
Jim Harbaugh brought his team in front of him on Sunday -- 17 days into the start of fall camp -- and informed everyone that Shea Patterson would be the starter on Sept. 1 at Notre Dame, he revealed this week on his "Attack Each Day" podcast.
"The quarterback position, you really have to be confident in yourself," Harbaugh said. "The next thing you do, with the way you play -- you have to make sure your teammates are confident in you.
