Niyo: Speight lights out after ‘night and day’ development

Ann Arbor – Jim Harbaugh hit Wilton Speight harder than Hawaii did in Michigan’s season opener a week ago, smacking him all over in what has become the coach’s pregame ritual.

But when a blitzing Central Florida linebacker finally hit the Wolverines’ quarterback Saturday at Michigan Stadium, clobbering him on a third-down incompletion on his first pass attempt of the game, Speight actually enjoyed it.

“I was kind of hoping for that, to be able to get hit like that on the first series,” Speight said, smiling. “They were coming hot and rocked me pretty good. As a quarterback, you kind of want that.
