NBA draft projections suggest Michigan player better off waiting a year

ANN ARBOR -- Charles Matthews announced on Friday afternoon, via Twitter, that he was declaring for the NBA draft but not hiring an agent.

Those last four words are very important, of course, as it allows Matthews to retain his eligibility should he withdraw his name by May 30. The opinions of draft prognosticators, at least, suggest he should take that route.

The 6-foot-6 small forward is not expected to be selected in either of the two rounds of June's draft. ESPN released its 2019 mock draft on Thursday and has Matthews as a late first-round pick.
