ANN ARBOR -- By the time spring 2017 rolled around, the Michigan football team didn't really know what it had at cornerback.
There were names. Several of them. And some, the coaching staff knew, were supremely talented. But the experience was lacking.
No one had started a game. They were working with a senior, two sophomores and a bunch of freshman. Thirteen days before the season opener, secondary coach Mike Zordich expressed frustration over what he considered slow development.
