OMAHA, Neb. — Ever since he can remember following college baseball, Erik Bakich has idolized Mike Martin.
Martin, in his 40th season as Florida State head coach, is the sport’s all-time winningest head coach. Under his watch, the Seminoles have never missed an NCAA tournament and have advanced to the College World Series 16 times.
Now, with one more opportunity at an elusive national championship — Martin is retiring at the end of the season — Bakich and the Michigan baseball team are standing in the way.
