Michigan lost its #2 QB before the most important game of the season for a #2 QB - Rutgers. You could have even made an agreement for McCafferty to start against the Scarlet Knights. With his broken collarbone now he won't even make the trip to New Jersey.
That leaves true freshman Joe Milton and Outback Bowl starter Brandon Peters. Both have positives and negatives to being the #2 QB.
Milton - has only been at Michigan a few months and probably doesn't have the greatest grasp of the offense. Jimmy would also like to keep his red shirt.
