Michigan hockey stunned by Minnesota in overtime in Big Ten tournament semifinal

South Bend Tribune

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Minnesota’s captain came up bigger than Michigan hockey’s in overtime, sending No. 2 seed Minnesota to the Big Ten tournament final.

Junior center Sammy Walker pounced on a rebound and fired it past Michigan junior goalie Strauss Mann at 6:00 of the extra session to hand the Wolverines a 3-2 loss Monday at Notre Dame’s Compton Family Ice Arena.

Fourth-ranked Minnesota (22-6-0) will meet fifth-ranked Wisconsin (20-8-1) for the championship at 8 p.m., with an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament at stake, though both teams are likely in.
