Michigan hockey sees similar style in Denver, its Frozen Four opponent

Boston — Michigan hockey coach Mel Pearson said Denver, the Wolverines’ national semifinal opponent in the Frozen Four, is, in a sense, like looking in a mirror.

They have dominant goalies in Michigan’s Erik Portillo and Denver’s Magnus Chrona, who both happen to be from Sweden and are nationally ranked 12th and 13th, respectively, in goals against, and Denver and Michigan are among the top three scoring teams in the country. The Pioneers lead the nation averaging 4.28 goals, while the Wolverines (4.02) are third.
