Michigan hockey removed from NCAA tournament due to positive COVID-19 tests

Michigan hockey has been removed from the NCAA tournament "due to positive COVID-19 test results within U-M's Tier I testing group," the program announced Friday afternoon.

The Wolverines were a No. 2 seed and slated to play No. 3 seed Minnesota Duluth, the two-time defending national champion, on Friday afternoon at Scheels Arena in Fargo, North Dakota. Now, Minnesota Duluth will automatically advance to the next round.

"I'm devastated for these players," coach Mel Pearson said in a statement. "These student-athletes have done a wonderful job all year of making sacrifices to get to this point of the year.
