Michigan hockey coaches bring wealth of Frozen Four experience

ANN ARBOR -- Mel Pearson taking over for Red Berenson as the next Michigan head hockey coach wasn't the only change to the coaching staff last spring.

Pearson added former Wolverines Bill Muckalt and Jeff Tambellini to his staff, joining seventh-year assistant Brian Wiseman and third-year goaltending coach Steve Shields.

The five coaches, who all played college hockey, have played in 10 Frozen Fours combined. Although none of them will lace up the skates when the Wolverines (22-14-3) face No. 2 Notre Dame in the Frozen Four at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Xcel Energy Center in St.
