Michigan has plans to play Utah grad transfer Casey Hughes at safety

ANN ARBOR -- There's still a few months left before defensive back Casey Hughes arrives at Michigan, but the football coaching staff is already mulling over ways to integrate him.

The Utah graduate transfer has one year of eligibility left, and will be able to play right away in 2018.

But it's not that easy. Michigan returns all four starters from its defensive backfield, a group that turned out to be the nation's best pass defense.

"We've talked to Casey about him playing safety," Michigan cornerbacks coach Mike Zordich told reporters earlier this week.

"We think he'd be a good guy in the slot.
