Michigan Football: What playoff rankings mean for Wolverines

While Michigan football fans may have been watching the basketball team Tuesday night, the College Football Playoff rankings were released with the Wolverines coming in as the No. 14 team.

All in all, that was about what was expected for Michigan, which is ranked as one of the top two-loss teams in the country, although Auburn, Wisconsin and Florida are ranked above the Wolverines right now.

But the committee certainly sent a message that it cares more about quality wins than it does record. Minnesota, which is still undefeated, was ranked 17th in the first release of the poll, while Michigan is ranked four spots higher even with two losses.
