Michigan Football returned nine starters from a defense that finished No. 3 nationally in 2017. The Wolverine defense had all the confidence in the world heading into the opening game against Notre Dame, but they found themselves down 14-0 almost immediately and just looked rattled. Michigan ended up surrendering another touchdown right before half and all of a sudden this defense didn’t look anything like a top ten unit.
Although the defense started off on a bad note they’ve been almost flawless since, giving up just six points in six quarters of play. The Irish couldn’t get anything going in the second half and actually finished with less total yards than Michigan.
