Michigan basketball had a magical run. But Villanova was just too good

SAN ANTONIO — Michigan coach John Beilein stood on the sideline, his sleeves rolled up, his face contorted.

"Let's go!" he screamed to his team.

But it was slipping away.

The Wolverines started out fast in the national championship on Monday night against Villanova. They were playing fierce team defense, making shots, playing hard and smart, following the game plan to perfection.

They took control and Villanova looked rattled.

But then, in a blink, it went away. Like a bonfire that burned hard and fast. The flames went out. The embers cooled. And this great Villanova team found its greatness.
