Michigan advances with overtime win over Purdue

Related Topics: Overtime (sports), Zak Irvin

For the second time in two weeks, the Wolverines battled Purdue’s big men on Friday afternoon, coming away with an upset victory. Fighting for the opportunity to play in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals, the meeting this time was more toughly contested, requiring overtime for the Maize and Blue to claim a 74-70 victory.

Nearly ending it in regulation, Zak Irvin tied the game with four seconds left and a Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman steal could have been for the chance to win, but the game was stopped to check the clock.

The extra session got off to a quiet start, but Irvin once again showed his skill slashing to the basket, scoring the Wolverines’ first four points.
