Boston — Before the Michigan hockey team left Ann Arbor for the NCAA Frozen Four, the players walked up into the stands at Yost Arena and looked up.
They saw banners commemorating nine national championships, the last raised for the 1998 title.
“You could stick another banner right there,” Michigan coach Mel Pearson told them, he shared this week. “We pointed that out, that there’s a spot right there. We put some emphasis on how great it would be. They'd have this forever as a group.”
