John Beilein on Tom Crean's firing: 'It's an unfortunate part of (the) business'

INDIANAPOLIS -- One of the biggest shoes in the Big Ten dropped on Thursday. About 45 minutes southwest of here, news emerged from Bloomington that Indiana has parted ways with head coach Tom Crean.

IU athletic director Fred Glass fired Crean after his ninth season at the school ended with an 18-16 record and a 7-11 mark in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers missed the NCAA Tournament and fell in the first round of the NIT.

Crean, a former Michigan State assistant (1995-1999) went 166-135 overall at Indiana and 71-91 after inheriting a program that has been stripped down to its support beams.
