ANN ARBOR -- Former Michigan basketball star Chris Webber will be on campus this weekend to serve as honorary captain for the school's football game against Penn State.
Whether Webber, who has been essentially estranged from Michigan since sanctions involving him were imposed in 2002, connects with the basketball program remains to be seen. Head coach John Beilein was hopeful when asked about the possibility on Thursday.
"There's been some discussion on that," Beilein said. "I don't know how much Chris wants me to say. We hope we can get together this weekend."
Webber accepted an invitation from football coach Jim Harbaugh to be an honorary captain, a duty which will presumably put him on the Michigan Stadium field before Saturday's kickoff.
