J.J. McCarthy has legs and Michigan football believes it knows how to use them

It wasn’t exactly tug-of-war at the mesh point. Still, Kalel Mullings expected to receive the handoff.

As he spent the early part of preseason camp moonlighting as a running back, the Michigan football linebacker had become accustomed to Cade McNamara stuffing the ball into his waiting arms and then dashing upfield. But the quarterback executing this latest exchange was J.J. McCarthy, and he had other ideas. Just as Mullings began to squeeze down on the ball, McCarthy attempted to yank it right back.
