Jim Harbaugh gearing up for Michigan football's quarterback battle: ‘Have at it’

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh won't announce a leader at the quarterback position or make comparisons anytime soon.

With Shea Patterson out of eligibility and aiming for the NFL, the starting job is up for grabs. The expected candidates are redshirt junior Dylan McCaffrey and redshirt sophomore Joe Milton.

“Just let them have at it,” Harbaugh said Thursday at the Michigan High School Coaches Association's clinic banquet in Lansing. “Go have at it. This period of time is an important time.”

“Love them both,” he continued. “I’ve been coaching them both up, the other quarterbacks and everybody on our team.
