Ann Arbor — While Michigan’s running game found a groove in its home-opening victory last weekend, it could get more of a boost in the next few games.
Tailback Drake Johnson, coming off his second career anterior cruciate knee ligament tear suffered last November against Ohio State, had one carry against Oregon State last Saturday. De’Veon Smith ran hard and accumulated 126 rushing yards and three touchdowns as Michigan finished with 225 yards on the ground, but Johnson could add a different look to the run game.
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh said during his weekly news conference Monday the strategy was to get Johnson a chance to get a feel for game speed as his role increases.
