From design to production, the story of Michigan's championship banners and rings

ANN ARBOR -- There was a 15-year stretch when the Michigan men's basketball program had more banners removed from Crisler Center than raised. But with the team's recent success, ordering banners and rings has become as common an offseason chore as recruiting and weightlifting.

On Tuesday night, before Michigan opens its regular season against Norfolk State, a Big Ten Tournament championship banner will be elevated to the Crisler rafters for the second straight year. A Final Four banner will also be raised.

A lot of effort and skill went into earning the banners -- and creating them.
