John Beilein left for the NBA for the same reason we sent a rocket to the moon: It was out there. He had to take the trip.
To test all that he’d learned. To step off the trail and find his way through the underbrush. To challenge himself.
That it hasn’t worked out is beside the point — reports suggest Beilein could step down from his job as the Cleveland Cavaliers’ coach as soon as this week, and if not, almost certainly at the end of the season.
