ANN ARBOR -- Former Michigan quarterback Brian Griese was named the winner of the Big Ten's 2015 Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award on Tuesday.
Griese -- who quarterbacked Michigan to a national championship in 1997 -- was singled out for his "leadership and humanitarianism" in his post-playing career life.
During his NFL career, Griese founded "Judi's House" -- a bereavement support group for grieving children and teens -- in honor of his late mother, who passed away after a battle with breast cancer when he was 12.
The former Michigan quarterback has also been heavily involved with Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor for a number of years.
