Big Ten finalizes football schedule, even as deliberations on reinstatement continue

The Big Ten presidents and chancellors have approved the framework for an eight-game, conference-only football season, ideally starting the weekend of Oct. 17, even as one chancellor earlier Tuesday poured cold water on the idea of reinstating fall sports.

A source close to the situation, who asked to remain anonymous because they aren't authorized to speak publicly about the conference's plans, told The News about the eight-game plan, which, if started Oct. 17 or 24, would allow the Big Ten time to be eligible for the College Football Playoff.
