Almost 200 enroll in LaMarr Woodley's charter school in Saginaw

SAGINAW, MI -- Eighteen months ago, football star LaMarr Woodley called Bruce Henson.

Henson, director of school partnerships for Accel Schools, thought it was a prank call.

"Why would LaMarr be calling me?" Henson told a crowd of people attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Woodley Leadership Academy on Friday, Aug 24.

Woodley, a football standout at Saginaw High School, went on to play at the University of Michigan and have a successful NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Henson said Woodley called him back and told him about his plans to open a charter school.
