Source: Michigan Running Game Coordinator Expected To Leave For Job At Florida State

Michigan running game coordinator/tackles and tight ends coach Greg Frey is preparing to leave for an assistant coaching position at Florida State on new head coach Willie Taggart's staff, a source told Chat Sports' James Yoder

Frey is expected to make the move in the months following Michigan's appearance in the Outback Bowl against South Carolina.

He played at Florida State under Bobby Bowden and won a national championship with the Seminoles in 1992.

Frey originally served as Michigan's offensive line coach from 2008-10. He then left for Indiana, where he worked as an offensive assistant from 2011-2016 before returning to Ann Arbor this past season.

Taggart and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh are good friends with Taggart having played for Harbaugh's father at Western Kentucky. He also worked on Jim's staff at Stanford as the running backs coach from 2007-2009.

The Wolverines will now have to hire three new assistant coaches this offseason. Safeties coach Brian Smith left to become the defensive coordinator at Rice and the NCAA is allowing college football teams to hire a 10th on-field assistant starting with the 2018 season.
