Michigan Football Recruiting: Wolverines Flipping Iowa Commit, Latest Offers And More

Much of the buzz around the Michigan Wolverines football program has been about the potential transfers of several Ole Miss players. That's understandably a key focus, but there's also the Early Signing Day period of December 20th to the 22nd for Michigan to concentrate on. The Wolverines will ink several top prospects during that time frame and the class currently ranks 12th in the nation with 16 verbal commits. Here's all the latest on Michigan Football Recruiting.

Michigan Flipping Iowa Commit?
The Wolverines recently extended an offer to three-star TE Ben VanSumeren and it seems likely that VanSumeren will flip from Iowa to Michigan. 247Sports reports VanSumeren will likely flip to Michigan, where he'll be an H-Back type (playing Tight End and Fullback). VanSumeren is from Essexville, Michigan and is the No. 11 prospect in the state of Michigan.

Michigan Offers Unheralded WR
Ronnie Bell was supposed to play basketball at Missouri State, but changed his mind late in the process. That led to Bell getting offers from the like of Northwest Missouri State, Central Missouri and Western Illinois. Those aren't powerhouse programs, but Michigan is. And the Wolverines are the first major program to extend Bell an offer, something he calls a dream come true.

"Coach Harbaugh gave me a call and offered me a scholarship and I couldn't be more happy," Bell told 247Sports. “It is a dream come true. Like my biggest dream has come true literally. Just that I am thankful (for the offer). It was always something I hoped could happen. I prayed it would some nights. Everything all works its self out and happens for a reason. Like I said, this is just a dream come true. It's all I've ever wanted."

It's not a surprise then that Michigan is Bell's current leader.

"Yes, mostly definitely (Michigan is my leader)," Bell said. “I couldn't be anymore excited about anything. I do (plan to visit Michigan) and it would be in January. It’s not quite set, but we are looking at the 19th."

Bell remains unranked on 247Sports, but with a Michigan offer, that probably won't remain the case for long.

Wolverines Offer 2019 Offensive Lineman
While the 2018 class is the priority for head coach Jim Harbaugh, he's not ignoring the 2019 class. Michigan offered 2019 offensive lineman Jacob Dean, who discussed the offer with 247Sports

“I was at the practice and (head coach Jim) Harbaugh came up and offered me," Dean said. "I was very excited and shocked at the same time. I am very excited about the offer ... I am very interested in Michigan. Hope I get to know the coaches more as time goes on. I know that they've always had a great football team and have a great football tradition."

Dean said he has no favorites, but Michigan is one of the first programs to offer. Dean is a huge tackle, listed at 6-foot-9, 310-pounds. He hails from Walled Lake, Michigan, where he attends Walled Lake Western.
