Florida Head Coach Says Gators Will "Beat The Heck Out Of Michigan" In Season Opener

The season opener between the Michigan Wolverines and Florida Gators is still over a week and a half away, but the trash talking has already started.

During a student pep rally, Florida head coach Jim McElwain said that the Gators are going to "beat the heck" out of the Wolverines on Sept. 2.

“I love the energy, can’t wait to see you,” McElwain told the students. “And you know what, we’re heading to Dallas here in a couple weeks to go beat the heck out of Michigan and then come back to you guys.”

Despite what McElwain says, Michigan enters the game as 3.5-point favorites.

Making matters worse for Florida is the suspension of seven players for making improper charges on their cost-of-attendance credit cards at the school bookstore and then selling those items for cash. Among the players suspended is star wide receiver Antonio Callaway, who is Florida's top receiver.

McElwain and Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh have met once before with these two programs squaring off in the Citrus Bowl after the 2015 season. The Wolverines won that game, 41-7.

The game, which is being played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX, is one of the headliners of college football's opening weekend. Kickoff time is set for 3:30 pm ET and will be televised on ABC.
