Yuri Wright has been expelled from Don Bosco Prep

I have just spoken to a source at Don Bosco Prep regarding Yuri Wright. Yuri has been expelled from school and will not be permitted to graduate in 2012. The reason he was expelled was because of the content of his Twitter account.

For anyone who missed the article we broke yesterday: Yuri Wright Tweets

The reaction to this article that we broke on Tuesday night has been extremely positive. Most people realize the poor judegment it was for a start athlete like Yuri to be tweeting the things he did. Yet still, a small majority of people out there are blaming me and the article for getting the kid in trouble.

To respond to that criticism, I have to ask: Where were the parents? Where were the coaches?

Today, Chat Sports writers/staff spoke with 6 administrators or coaches of high profile athletes, including Brian Kelly, AD at De La Salle High where Michigan QB recruit Shane Morris attends, regarding the social media accounts of their athletes. What I can say from reading the transcripts is that these coaches, teachers and parents need to remove their head from the sand and find out what star athletes are up to.

The fact that Yuri was allowed to tweet such profane and racially charged language for MONTHS without anyone telling him "don't do that" is mind-boggling. I spoke off the record with a member of the Don Bosco coaching staff yesterday about the article and this coach wasn't even aware that Yuri had a Twitter account . . . and this is a coach at the #1 program in America.

Discuss it on Facebook: Yuri Wright Expelled

So, for anyone who blames a writer for publicizing something that ANYONE in the world could have read is stupid. I didn't tweet from Yuri's account. When you want to pass blame, start with the adults in his life.
