Report: Mike Shanahan Wants To Coach At Michigan Or Florida

Former Denver Broncos and Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan is spending this season away from coaching, and apparently he's itching to get back into it - in the college ranks.

According to Wolverine247:

Sources close to the situation have told Wolverine247 that former Washington Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan would be interested in returning to college football for either the Wolverines or Florida Gators job if they were to open.

Current 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh is the leading candidate to replace Brady Hoke as the head coach at Michigan, and Florida will likely go after Mississippi State's Dan Mullen if they fire Will Muschamp.

Shanahan won two Super Bowls in 1997 and 1998 with the Broncos and coached until he was fired from Washington after the 2013 season.

He has never been a college head coach, though he did spend nine years as an assistant in the college ranks - most notably as Florida's offensive coordinator from 1980-83.

Shanahan has a strong resume, but Michigan and Florida might be worried about the way he left Washington and the fact that he's 62 years old. The Wolverines and Gators have not said whether or not they're interested in Shanahan, but the coach is just two years removed from leading the Redskins to the playoffs.

Hoke and Muschamp both still have the head job at their respective schools, but many expect them to be let go after the season ends.
