Michigan Student Assaulted After Cheering For Michigan State

A Michigan student was assaulted early Sunday morning for yelling Michigan State's most popular cheer.

According to police, a UM student was punched in the face several times after yelling "Go Green, Go White!" on the Diagonal (the local name for the 900 block of North University Avenue in Ann Arbor) early Sunday morning.

The victim and a friend were reportedly yelling the cheer when they were approached by two men, one of whom took issue and punched the victim several times. The suspect is described as a white man, 18 years old, 6-feet-4 inches tall, 200 pounds, with a large and muscular build and wearing a plaid shirt.

The victim did not seek treatment until the following afternoon, which was when the police became involved. When the victim spoke to doctors at the University of Michigan Hospital's emergency room, he informed them that his injuries were the result of an assault, and police were summarily notified.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to call the University of Michigan police at 734-763-1131.
