Michigan Football Recruiting: Wednesday Rumors Roundup

The Harbaugh train keeps rolling…here’s the latest in the Michigan recruiting world, as of January 7:

ROQUAN SMITH TO VISIT

Roquan Smith, a 4-star linebacker from Montezuma, Georgia, says he plans to visit Michigan on January 16th. He is considering Michigan as well as Arizona State (visits on 1/23), UCLA (visits on 1/29), and Georgia (visited on 12/12)

The Wolverines are making a late push, as Smith was considering LSU and Ole Miss before Jim Harbaugh was hired as Michigan. Once new defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin was hired, Smith scheduled his visit and has essentially eliminated the Tigers and Rebels.

DURKIN OFFERING SCHOLARSHIPS

Durkin has only been on the job for a couple of days, but he's already doing wonders on the recruiting trail. He's offered scholarships to four-star defensive end Charles Omenihu (Rowlett, Texas), who is currently committed to Charlie Strong's Texas Longhorns, but is still open to visiting Michigan, and three-star defensive back Damon Arnette (Fort Lauderdale, Florida), who is a South Carolina commit.

EARLY ENROLLEES ON CAMPUS

Four-star quarterback Alex Malzone and four-star athlete Brian Cole have arrived on campus, and are the only two members of Michigan's 2015 class that have enrolled early.
