Michigan Football Recruiting Update: Jim Harbaugh Targeting A Sleeper QB Prospect

Jim Harbaugh and company are still hard at work building up Michigan's 2015 recruiting class - here's all the latest as of 1/14:

Roquan Smith

The four-star LB from Montezuma, GA has been strongly linked to the nearby Bulldogs, but Jim Harbaugh's new defensive coordinator has helped the Wolverines make up some ground on Georgia and the other SEC schools at the top of Smith's list. Smith has been hugely impressed by the D.J. Durkin hire, per Scout.com's Chad Simmons:

"The Wolverines are now a contender because of new defensive coordinator D.J. Durkin. Smith and Durkin have been close for over a year and while Durkin was at Florida, the Gators were viewed as the biggest threat to Georgia (his presumed leader)."

McLane Carter

Jim Harbaugh is still looking for another quarterback to add to Michigan's 2015 haul, but at this point, the pickings are slim. Enter Carter: a pro-style QB from Gilmer, TX who hasn't gotten much attention from the heavy hitters...not yet, anyway. Carter isn't even rated on Rivals, 247 or any of the other recruiting sites out there, but his highlight reel is actually pretty impressive:

Carter clearly isn't a finished product, but his technique and quick release make him an interesting prospect. Harbaugh is set to visit Gilmer in the next few days to get an in-person look at the 6'2, 190 lb QB, but Texas Tech and Florida are also interested after getting a look at Carter's film.

Chris Clark

Harbaugh has been making a STRONG push for the five-star 2015 TE, who originally committed to Michigan but rescinded that commitment after Brady Hoke was fired. Clark is scheduled to visit Michigan, UCLA and South Carolina before national signing day on February 4, but Harbaugh wants him to make a move sooner than that:

"...he said I could be the first big commit and be the face and leader of the class." Clark told Scout's Bill Greene. "He wants me to jump on board now and thinks we could do great things together."
