5 Standouts From The Michigan Football Spring Game

The 2017 Michigan Wolverines Spring Game didn't lack drama. The Blue team rallied from down 11 points with just over four minutes to play to take a lead late. But, the Maize team won 31-29 on a game-winning field goal from Kyle Seychel as time expired.

Several players shined at the spring game, which could help them earn more playing time in the actual games. Of course, that assumes they keep up that play when Michigan heads to Italy for the rest of spring practice and during fall practice. With that in mind, here are five (kind of) players who stood out at the Michigan Football Spring Game.

QB Brandon Peters
With Wilton Speight struggling, the top QB for Michigan was clearly Brandon Peters. He completed 9 of 17 passes for 160 yards and a TD, easily the top stat line among QBs. He wasn't perfect, but he led the Maize team on the game winning drive after his defense gave it away. Peters ran for a TD too, although he had a pick-six. He's already surpassed John O'Korn, who was 3 for 6 as a backup. Peters is just a redshirt freshman and his future looks bright.

RBs Ty Isaac and Karan Higdon
This is the first of two groupings. Isaac and Higdon were the clear-cut top two runners Saturday. Isaac had only five carries, but racked up 47 and a long of 28. Higdon had 18 carries, racking up 81 yards and two scores. The running back position will likely be a committee again this year (with Chris Evans and Kareem Walker also ready to contribute), but Isaac and Higdon could be near the top based on their spring games.

WR Nate Schoenle
If your reaction was "who?" that's understandable. After all, Schoenle is just a walk-on and Michigan brought in a bunch of highly-touted recruits at WR this year. But Schoenle, who only played a handful of snaps last year, had a game-high 58 yards on two catches. One was as 40-yarder that helped set up the game-winning field goal. Peters had praise for him after the game.

"A lot of people don't know about him, but Nate Schoenle has been really impressive," Peters said. "He's just a walk-on, but I mean, he's been having a great spring. He really competes every day, and really works his butt off. He's surprising me."

Schoenle might not get much playing time this year, but he was a standout in the spring game. Honorable mention to Tarik Black, who had four catches for 50 yards and a TD.

LB Devin Bush Jr.
Linebacker remains an area of concern for Michigan and Bush will be counted on to step up. He did just that in the spring game, with three tackles and two sacks. He's got great speed and, despite being young, will need to make some plays this year.

S Jordan Glasgow (And Khaleke Hudson)
The other Glasgow, Jordan, is a walk-on (like his brothers) and competing for playing time in the "Viper" role (what Jabrill Peppers played last year). Glasgow happened to have the play of the day, a 102-yard pick-six.

He also added a pass breakup and two tackles. Glasgow might not play a ton, but the fans should know his name now. And he might not play a lot because of the presence of Khaleke Hudson. He was all over the field en route to three tackles and a sack.
