3 Things We Learned From Michigan's 31-0 Win Over BYU

The Michigan Wolverines put together their best performance of the season against BYU, grabbing a huge early lead over the Cougars and never relented, winning in blowout fashion. Here are three things we learned from the game:

3) Michigan's offense does actually have big play ability

The Wolverines had struggled to move the ball consistently, or in big chunks, throughout their first three games, but wideout Amara Darboh and running back De'Veon Smith gave Michigan some much-needed life on the offensive side of the ball:

Michigan has needed some playmakers to step up on offense, and it looks like they've found two.

2) Tanner Mangum's magic is gone

Mangum was spectacular in the first three games of the season, using clutch passes to beat Nebraska and Boise State, then passed for 244 yards while nearly leading another comeback effort against UCLA last week. However, he could do nothing against Michigan's defense, completing just 12/28 passes for 55 yards. He's the engine that drives BYU's team, and he needs to turn things around quickly if the Cougars are going to get their season back on track.

1) Michigan's defense is the best in the country

Move over, Michigan State.

The Wolverines came into today's game with the No. 7 defense in the country, but they had their best performance of the year against BYU by limiting the Cougars to just 105 total yards. They've continued to improve with each game this season, and their play is going to make them an extremely dangerous threat in the Big Ten race.
