Youth movement pacing Spartan hockey to start the season

EAST LANSING – In the first four games of the Adam Nightingale era, Michigan State has already looked like a far different hockey team offensively.

During a pair of series splits – first, with Bowling Green, and most recently against No. 16 Massachusetts-Lowell – the Spartans have totaled 39 or more shots in a game three times, matching their total for all of last season.

The offensive push is partly due to a change in philosophy, but it's also been boosted by early play of four freshmen who have added skill to the lineup.

"They've been doing a great job, and as freshmen you know they kind of just put their head down and work, not putting any lofty expectations on their head," Nightingale said.
