Why Michigan State football staff's shake-up may help tight ends the most

EAST LANSING — Michigan State football’s tight ends are not hiding from last season's disappointment.

The group combined for just 259 yards on 22 catches and two touchdowns in 2018, a far cry from the production the Spartans have come to expect during Mark Dantonio’s tenure.

“We were frustrated,” tight end Matt Dotson admitted Monday at MSU’s media day.

As part of an offseason shakeup of the offensive coaching staff, former offensive line coach Mark Staten took over the tight end room, and Dotson said he has brought a new energy.
