Why Mark Dantonio's fate as Michigan State's football coach is in his hands — and his alone

Whether Mark Dantonio's time as Michigan State's football coach comes to a close this season or stretches on for a year or two more rests squarely in the coach's hands.

And he's not tipping his hand.

Multiple sources with direct knowledge of Dantonio, MSU's athletic department and its administration told the Free Press there have been no discussions about firing the coach, whose team has lost four straight games, including a gut-wrenching 37-34 loss to Illinois last Saturday.
