Valentine wins Erving award; Hield wins Wooden

The final national player of the year award tally is Denzel Valentine 6, Buddy Hield 5, though Hield ended up with the two major awards that take into account some of the postseason.

Hield, Oklahoma's senior guard, won the Wooden Award on Friday in Los Angeles, in a ceremony attended by Valentine and MSU coach Tom Izzo. Hield starred on the way to the Final Four before a blowout loss to eventual national champ Villanova -- all votes were in by then -- in the national semifinals.

Valentine and Michigan State fell in a first-round shocker to Middle Tennessee State.
