Spartans basketball a blast from the past

EAST LANSING – Take a freshman with unlimited athleticism and potential, a pro future and a still-developing game, put him on a deep championship contender and watch him flash with sporadic bursts of dominance.

Tom Izzo did that 16 years ago with a guard from Saginaw named Jason Richardson. He’s doing it now with a big man from Muskegon named Deyonta Davis.

“My goal was to come here and just be a factor. It wasn’t to start, it was to help this team win games,” Richardson said Saturday amid a reunion of MSU’s 1999-2000 national championship team.
