St. Louis – The run to the national title that seemed like a forgone conclusion for Michigan State instead ended in arguably the most stunning loss in program history.
Second-seeded Michigan State, the favorite for many to reach the Final Four and win the national championship, was stunned by 15-seed Middle Tennessee State, 90-81 on Friday, becoming just the eighth No. 2 to lose to a 15-seed in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Denzel Valentine struggled the entire game despite handing out 12 assists, turning the ball over six times and scoring 13 points in 5-for-12 shooting.
