• No. 12/11 Michigan State opens its 120th season of football against Furman on Friday, Sept. 2 in Spartan Stadium at 7 p.m. MSU is 80-36-3 (.685) all-time in season openers, including a 15-2 record (.882) in its last 17 games. The Spartans have won their last seven season openers. Michigan State is coming off a 12-2 season in 2015, winning the Big Ten Championship and reaching the College Football Playoff. Furman is coming off a 4-7 season, finishing sixth in the Southern Conference. Friday’s matchup is the first-ever meeting between Michigan State and Furman, as well as the Spartans’ first opponent from the state of South Carolina.
