East Lansing — Michigan State defensive back Tyson Smith said on Twitter early Thursday morning he suffered a stroke last year.

The cornerback made four starts last season and played in eight games, however he missed the final three games of the season for what the team called an undisclosed injury. Smith, from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, also did not take part in the spring game on April 1.

“I’m supposed to be in a wheelchair after that stroke last year doctors say I’m blessed to still be able to walk, talk, and run!,” Smith posted on Twitter.
