EAST LANSING — James and Frances Owens still remember the shock.
The two made the 10-hour trip from southern New Jersey to watch their son, Gerald Owens, play in the annual spring scrimmage his redshirt freshman season. It was a chance to see him as a running back again, just like when he was in high school.
