MSU leadership confident in NCAA report clearing university of wrongdoing

EAST LANSING, MI -- Ahead of Michigan State University's first football game of the season on Friday, Interim President John Engler commended a report from the NCAA finding no wrongdoing.

"We certainly congratulate Bill Beekman and the athletic department, Coach (Mark) Dantonio and Coach (Tom) Izzo for the letter that was received yesterday indicating no violations in our department," Engler said in his president's report at the university's Board of Trustees meeting Friday morning.

The NCAA launched investigations into the university's athletic programs following the revelations of athlete sexual abuse by ex-MSU sports medicine doctor Larry Nassar, who pleaded guilty to criminal sexual conduct, and an explosive report in ESPN questioned handling of sexual assault allegations in the football and basketball programs.
