EAST LANSING — Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio has added a veteran high school coach with strong Lansing area ties to his staff.
Dantonio recently added Jerry VanHavel, a former Mason High School head football coach, as its on-campus recruiting coordinator. MSU football spokesman Ben Phlegar confirmed VanHavel's hiring Thursday in an email to the State Journal.
VanHavel confirmed Wednesday on his Facebook page that he has signed a contract. VanHavel said he views the job as "the chance of a lifetime and the last professional stop of my life.
