CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — It took 36 seconds for Cassius Winston to commit Michigan State basketball’s first turnover on Tuesday.

It was just the first of many for him and the Spartans.

Steals went for dunks the other way. Telegraphed passes got picked off and turned into Illinois 3-pointers.

Everything Tom Izzo warned his team a day earlier about the Illini’s ability to force turnovers, everything MSU saw in its past two trips to State Farm Center, got compounded in the first half by the Spartans’ own carelessness Tuesday night.
