Michigan State has a new leader for its athletics department, at least temporarily.
Interim president John Engler on Monday afternoon appointed university vice president and secretary of the Board of Trustees Bill Beekman the interim athletic director. He takes over for Mark Hollis, who resigned on Jan. 26 and his final day on the job was last Wednesday.
"I am honored to receive this appointment and look forward to this new challenge," Beekman, who doesn't have previous athletic administrative experience, said in a university press release. "This is obviously a new day at MSU and I am pleased to be part of the changes.
